You can get an ETA visa if you’re:
- going to the UK for up to six months for tourism, visiting friends & family, business or short term study
- transiting through the UK (including not passing through UK border control)
ETAs will cost GBP16 and are usually granted within 3 business days. On some occasions it may take longer. ETAs are valid for two years or until passport expiry, whichever is sooner. You can travel to the UK as many times as you like whilst the ETA remains valid.
ETAs are compulsory for Australian passport holders arriving in the UK on or after 8 January 2025. This includes the transits referenced above.

Important Reminder for Dual Nationals What is a dual national? A dual national holds nationality in more than one country. Whether you’re a dual national depends on the laws of both countries. When you’re a dual national, it’s important to understand how each country expects its citizens to enter and exit.
For example, U.S. law requires all U.S. citizens to enter and leave the U.S. on a U.S. passport. Even if you hold another citizenship, you must use your U.S. passport when arriving in or departing from the U.S. A U.S. citizen with an expired passport cannot enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA).
Similarly, Canadian citizens cannot enter Canada on an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Dual citizens need a valid Canadian passport to enter Canada.
South African citizens must enter and leave South Africa on a South African passport. Using another passport (like an Australian passport) may lead to fines, delays, or even being denied entry.
Extra Tips:
If some travellers hold more than one nationality, visa or entry requirements can differ based on which passport is used including when transiting. Ensuring we review all travel documents helps avoid complications at borders. If in doubt, please contact the consulate of those countries they are travelling to, or transiting, for accurate information. |
New European Entry/Exit System (EES)
The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) starts on 12 October 2025 for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area. Your customers will need to register at borders and have their fingerprint and photo taken. There may be longer border queues and your customers should know to expect as this new system is gradually introduced at border crossing points with full implementation by 10 April 2026
.
Please be mindful that while one of the intended benefits of the Entry/Exit System (EES) is more efficient travel across borders, it’s unknown how the introduction will impact passengers with connecting flights in Europe who are required to clear immigration when transiting these countries.
Chile – Visa no longer required for Australian Passport Holders

Many tour operators visiting National Parks will state whether or not fees are included however ProHub recommends that you contact the supplier directly for clarification on the new significant additional fee and how this will impact for customers.
